Thought we, I needed another van to put up. We are considering a Cairns trip before Amy goes top secondary school next year and because I have some house jobs need doing and don't have the funds to do a lot I sold the Regal. I've picked up a very good solid 18ft tandom poptop with bunks for $1800. It has alloy frame and verey good fopr age. It needs a few sharky mods/fixes which will be a few thou but plan is to take it up there. I've started work on the inside and although there was nothing wrong with them I am making the main bed and bunks bigger. Queen bed and good sized bunks. I have to get the poptop vinyl replaced as the zips are cactus, a new fridge (only had tiny bar fridge) and some bench/laminate work. I ripped the oven out as it was ordinary and we don't cook inside anyway. I will be raising the height of it for better clearance and hopefully have just sourced a roll out awning for it. Just have to go get it. Needs new wheels/tyres so going suraysias there. I will get some more pics when I can. Here is a couple of what it looks like.
Hey Scol you should be down here now hottest summer we had for a long time """I'M OVER THE HEAT/FIRES""

RETRO!!!!!

I love it Steve!!! Honest ... out of all the vans you've had this is the trendiest.

Are you doing Cairns this year? I am heading up to Bourketown via inland and coming back down the coast road. Leaving early July at this stage ... and plan to travel for 2 -3 months. No plan ... just wing it ... but if you are going this year then maybe we can meet up somewhere.

Hope you get a lot of trips in with the 'retro' van ... damn cheers I love this thing!!!

cheers

Oh! Interior pics?

Cool

Thanks guys, Scol we have always had old bangers traditionally so this not much different I guess but its in surprising good nic for an oldy that I bought from a farm sale. Was quite funny my neighbour rings me and say there is a van at this clearance sale. I said how big "18ft" mmmm I better have a look and when I pulled up there were a few around it and 18ft tandom with bunks Very Happy He wanted 2g for it and I offered him 1500 and said I'll pay you and take it now. He said 1800 and yep DONE DEAL(I would have given him the 2g). Raced up the bank and next thing I know there is 2 vans in my drive. I do like the look of it Scol I'm feeling all nostalgic lol. I'm hopefull to have it ready and going up there around June to August this year.
Ron I sold the regal to get some cash together to fix this and hopefully all going well a Cairns trip. Just want to try and do it before Amy gets bogged down in secondary school work. I didn't want to sell it as I'll never have another like it but.......
The viscount has minimal to no rot, its ally framed and has a strong floor. The panelling inside is pretty good but I do have some work/$$$$ ahead of me.
I will get some more pics asap I haven't done much as I've been crook with a bloody summer flu and its flattened me a bit

Yeah C channel Scol. Hopefully can work something out for a catchup mate. Took oven out as it was pretty ordinary and we don't cook in the van so making another cupboard there. Finally got a fridge for it so happy about that. I made the main bed into a queen size (maybe slightly bigger) and made the bunks bigger and dropped the top one down slightly, Yeah I know the wood I used will make it heavier but wanted to make sure wont break. I have bought a roll out awning for it and am about to get new wheels and tyres ''HAS BLOODY VOLVO WHEELS ON IT"" Rolling Eyes . Still got a long way to go but will soldier on with it.
Sorry its taken awhile and still very much work in progress but here is some pics.

Thanks Scol and Ron yeah Fiona likes it but she wants a dome at the back so she can stand up and look out Shocked Suspect , I told her I'd put a gun turret in Laughing . Its low going at the moment but I'm working on it as much as I can.I run into another hurdle tonight, started the axle undersling as I have bought a roll out awning for it and need the extra height and the u clamps holding the axle to the spring are a bit shagged and apparently a 60mm round axle isn't very common Mad . Grrrrrrr somebody remind me why I do this shite.

If that is the price of the awning AND the pop top curtain that is ok. An awning is easily over $1k ... I upgraded mine after I dinged the original ... $1600-$1700 just for the awning ... no labour.

Cant wait to see your van in all its glory.

Cheers!

Nah mate was not including buying the awning.
1) fitting awning (had to get shorter legs and have shortened further)
2) supply and fit vinyl poptop bit
3) 2 x new power points
4) Repair/brace poptop roof I broke pulling it down Embarassed
5)4 x new roof lifters

I will get a pic of it when I can

Some progress pics still have a bit to do. I retrimed the kitchen cupboards to liven it up a bit. New benchtops and fridge panel. I couldn't get the panel but I don't mind this one I got.

Unfortunately when I put the roll out awning in the van for transit it moved and damaged the new panelling at the bottom and as its liquid nailed on I cant replace it. ""Very pissed off""

Also going to retrim the couch and floor lino as its a bit ordinary. Plenty to do later too:roll:. Mate I don't know if I'll be able to do a side trip Scol as will be on a bit of a schedule (will see how were situated) but would love to at least catch up though if your able to mate.

You'll need to come past the turn off at least.  Just let me know what you want to do ... the main problem is that it is school hols.  I know some camp spots but they may be full.  Just keep in mobile contact and see what we can do.

I get the van tonight or tomorrow ... woo hoo!!!  saw it last night ... it's looing hot ... Wink
